Our Story
Some stories begin with grand visions. Ours was born from something quieter, yet no less enduring — a belief that true beauty lies in the details, and that the smallest touch can leave a lasting impression. Over 30 years ago, a father and son — both steeped in the traditions of interior decorating and heritage restoration — found themselves facing a familiar challenge. While meticulously redecorating some of Tasmania’s grandest homes and storied hotels, they struggled to source the quality architectural hardware required to do justice to these historic interiors.
Search after search led them to a Sydney-based importer of fine brassware and bathroom fittings — a relationship that would spark the beginnings of Castella.
Those early years were spent crafting bespoke brass railings, bar fixtures, and security screens — details that brought warmth and character to Tasmania’s revitalised pubs and hotels. Each piece was made to last — shaped by a sense of pride, precision, and care that would become Castella’s signature.
A Family Story, Still Unfolding
As the years passed, the family — and the business — grew. A new generation brought fresh ideas, expanding Castella’s presence beyond Tasmania to supply architects, designers, and builders across Australia. But growth wasn’t about chasing scale — it was about sharing something better. Castella’s reputation spread not because we followed trends, but because we refused to compromise on what mattered: beautifully designed, beautifully made hardware — delivered with genuine care. Even now, as Castella steps into a bold new phase, we remain a family business — proudly based in Hobart, still grounded in the values that shaped us from the start.
In a world where service often feels transactional, Castella continues to operate with the warmth and thoughtfulness that’s second nature in Tasmania — where relationships are valued, and trust is earned by showing up, doing things properly, and taking pride in every detail.
A Commitment to Doing Things Better
Our dedication to thoughtful design has always led us to explore new ideas — materials, methods, and innovations that allow us to create something truly special.
Our partnership with Hydrowood is one example of that mindset in action. When rare Tasmanian timber — lost beneath the waters of Lake Pieman for over 25 years — was salvaged and given a second life, we saw an opportunity to craft something extraordinary.
Today, Castella is the only hardware brand in the world to create pieces from this remarkable reclaimed timber. For us, it’s not just about the material — it’s about what it represents: bold thinking, sustainable innovation, and a commitment to Australian craftsmanship.
It reflects a mindset that has guided Castella from the beginning — a belief that better materials, better design, and better service lead to better spaces.

Looking Ahead
Now entering our 35th year, Castella is evolving once again. But this isn’t just growth — it’s a shift toward something greater.
Our ambition is to set a new standard in hardware design — where form isn’t just functional, it’s transformative.
We believe hardware should do more than complete a space — it should elevate it. It should inspire. It should leave an impression that lingers long after you’ve left the room.
And with a fourth generation now born, the Castella story continues — proof that when you build with care, you build something that lasts.

Our Vision
