About the Project

Perched on Tasmania’s rugged east coast overlooking Spring Beach and Triabunna, this compact home by Scale Architecture rests gently within its natural bush setting. The design celebrates simplicity and connection to place, with a compact gable form wrapped in Bluegum board-and-batten cladding that weathers over time and blends into the surrounding landscape.

Inside, carefully framed views and strategic glazing bring in light, bushland, and sea breeze—creating a quiet retreat designed for connection with nature. Every element is pared back to its essence: tactile materials, considered spacing, and a restrained palette make the interior feel generous and cohesive without excess.

Castella’s Tullah Hydrowood timber handles were selected for the cabinetry, their organic curves and rich Tasmanian Oak grain bringing a subtly sculptural and sustainable touch to the interiors. These handcrafted timber accents complement the overall design philosophy: local, natural, and timeless.
