Care & Maintenance

Not all finishes are created equal – some finishes are designed to retain their original lustre for years; others are created to age and patina over time.

Whichever finish you have chosen you can be certain it will add beauty to your home for years to come if you take a little time to care for them.

All finishes should be regularly cleaned with a mild detergent and a soft microfibre cloth, and dried. To further enhance and protect the finish a non-abrasive furniture grade polish can be applied and buffed with a soft dry cloth.

Never use abrasive cloths or cleaners on your handles as this may damage them and will void your guarantee.

SOLID BRASS AND BRONZE

Brass and Bronze hardware is corrosion resistant, and has natural antimicrobial properties. Being a living finish, the handles will tarnish over time as it reacts to the atmosphere. Our solid brass handles in Satin Brass finish have a satin lacquer for protection and to prevent discoloura- tion.

When brass is exposed to elements such as high humidity, coastal areas and extreme weather conditions, the finish may wear more quickly, and the handles will discolour or tarnish over time. This is a natural process as brass is a living finish and may not be covered by our Lifetime Guarantee.

Brass handles should be cleaned regularly with a soft damp cloth and dried.

PVD (Physical Vapour Deposition) is a thin coating of film supplied to the solid metal base.
The coating is invisible and does not change the look and feel of the metal, but creates an incredibly hardwearing finish. PVD finishes are the perfect choice for coastal areas as the finish can withstand sea air which can rapidly corrode other metal finishes. Clean handles with a soft damp cloth and dry.

STAINLESS STEEL

Stainless Steel is highly durable and resistant to corrosion, and environmentally friendly. Stainless steel products may develop a brown discolouration known as ‘tea staining’ over time. This can occur on all grades of stainless steel and appears as small rust-like stains on the surface. It is not a fault, but a common occurrence in some situations (eg contact with chlorides found in sea salt and some cleaning products). Stainless Steel handles should be cleaned regularly with a mild detergent, and a soft cloth and dried.

TIMBER

The beauty of timber is that each piece is unique and may vary slightly in colour and grain within the same batch.

Caring for timber handles is important to ensure they maintain their appearance over time. Clean regularly with a damp cloth to remove dust and dirt. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners, as these can damage the timber.

To help protect the timber apply a high quality furniture polish according to manufacturer’s instructions.
